Objectives
To train trilingual executives
Along with the expansion of international trade, the management of the logistic chain is turning to an essential aspect of the market. The goal of this specialization in Foreign Languages Applied to International Trade in the University of Nantes is to train trilingual executives. They will work in trade business with major knowledge in logistics.
If know-how of the international economy make up a real absolute value which companies are looking for, this major asset go together with real skill in languages and a good international culture.
The search for this double ability- strategic, tactical and operational expertise in logistics- is the main goal oft this second year of master degree. The originality also lies in the choice of foreign languages which lead to various profiles of students. The languages offered are: English, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Arabic and Chinese (from 2008).

The jobs aimed by this training are related with management,
organization of the logistic chain at an international level (values,
means of transport), informations exchanges and distribution
channels.

5 months of courses followed by a work experience placement in a foreign country ( at least 3 months)
The progress of this second year centers on 2 semesters of courses followed by a vacational training course.
- The first semester (from September to December) includes 3 subjects matters: Languages (60 H), Logistics (120H) and Application subjects (50H).
- The second semester (from January to February) is more concentrated towards the professional issue. It is made up of 2 subjects; business languages (60H) and management of a logistic project (25H). This second period of education is devoted to the implementation of the know-how achieved during the first semester, an implementation realised by collective projects. For example studying international logistics problems with proposals of real solutions. These studies are conducted by partnership with professional organizations coming from the regional economy. After that, students will have to present a written report and will have to make an oral presentation in front of a board of examiners.
- At last, a vocational training in a foreign country completes this course.
Training contents
Languages and Logistics
The first semester takes place in Nantes, it includes 3 UEF which correspond to 10 ECTS :
- UEF 91 : Languages
- UEF 92 : Logistics
- UEF 93 : Applications Contents
The second semester takes place in Nantes during January and February and then abroad. It includes 3 UEF :
- UEF 101 : Languages in professional issuess
- UEF 102 : Management of a logistic project
- UEF 102 : Vacational training
[UEF 91 and UEF 101 / 20 ECTS credits]
The aim is to especialize and improve skills in 2 languages which are assessed at the same level. The subjects studied are:
- Civilization and contemporary economy: presentation of the geographical area and cultural environment, courses about history, linguistic and sociology of foreign countries;
- Practice of languages in laboratories: simultaneous translation, cases of collective talks and management of human resources ( coaching, training for telephonical talks).
- Cases studies, trade talks and logistics studies.
[UEF 92 / 10 ECTS credits]
Courses address the following aspects: Purchase and supplying
(18 H), Distribution (18 H), Electronical Trade (12
H), Logistics return (12 H), Industrial Logistics (12
H), International Logistics (18h) and Logistics information
systems (20 H).
This UE also dedicate a very important time to professionalization
(30H) with weekly seminars, which allows to prepare students to the
labor market and its jobs, sectors, companies networks or logistics
problems such as « Forecasting, planning, production: for a collaborating
approach»,
« Institutional logistics structures»,
«
Logistics and Sustainable development » ou
«
Humanitarian Logistics ». To finish, this UEF offers a
computerized company game (played in group) dedicated to the production
and distribution of a company.
Comment: It is
important to notice that students still learn logistics during the
second semester with the training project
(UEF 102 / 5
crédits ECTS). Indeed, this UEF should be considered as the
effective practice of knowledge learned during the first semester in
the frame of projects realised with professional who work in
logistics.

This UE aims to improve skills in Management and Organization
(25H) and in Communication and Computers Sciences (25H). During the
second semester students will practice all the knowledge acquired
during the first part of the course.
